Title: Sicor Chairman of the Board

Born in 1949 in Lithuania, in 1971 he graduated from Vilnius University, Faculty of Chemistry with a Diploma of higher education. He acquired a Ph.D in chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry, Vilnius University, in 1975. In 1993 he acquired a Ph.D at the Institute of Biochemistry Research and Design and Construction of the USSR and in 1995 he was awarded a pedagogic title of the Professor.
In 1975 he started working as a junior researcher at the Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technologies, Vilnius. Between 1984 and 1989 he was a Head of the Department of Scientific-Industrial Association Fermentas, Vilnius. In 1997 he became a Professor at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University and he works there till now. At the same time in years 1996 and 2002 he was a Head of Research Laboratory of Protein Structure and Interaction at Institute of Biotechnology Fermentas, Vilnius. In 1996 till 1999 he was a General Manager, Chairman of the Board of Directors in BIOFA, AB, Vilnius. In 1999 he became a General Manager, Chairman of the Board of Directors at SICOR BIOTECH, UAB and he work there till now. Mr. Bumelis is a winner of Science Award of Lithuania in the category of applied scientific activities (experimental development) for the series of works “Therapeutic recombinant proteins and their use in medicine (1983-2003)”, 2004, Manager of the year 2000 (Magazine Veidas) and an Honor Member of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, since 1996.
