Work will be partially financed by the state as part of the "Technology Initiative I" program of the Minister of Science and Higher Education. It includes developing a new psychotropic substance, from defining biological aims, design and synthesis of the chemical compound libraries to initial pharmacological and toxicological tests up to advanced preclinical trials, which are to confirm the efficacy and safety of the potential drug.
The first phase of developing the drug is evaluation of in vitro activity (biochemical tests) which will be completed in 2009, however at the end of this year commencement of in vivo testing is planned. The next step (planned for 2010-2012) will be advanced pharmacological and toxicological testing, conducted in accordance with Good Laboratory Practice standards, aimed at singling out the best compounds for clinical trials.
