2009-11-17 Nanotechnology under magnifier in United States and Europe

US government and European Union announced separate plans for starting research on possible consequences of nanotechnology application.

One of the possible uses of nanotechnology constitutes nutrition and packaging. Potential applications in this area include antibacterial coating for contact with nutrition or for wrapping surface, as well as detectors for pathogens and toxins, or changing registration in natural environment.

American Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has already presented a new strategy concerning the studies on influence on nanomaterials on people and environment in October. The research will be carried by EPA and external groups, financially supported by government.

EU declared development of a strategy for most efficient way for deriving advantage of nanotechnology. European Commission statement reads: “Mastering of such technologies constitutes a steady foundation for well-paid posts in EU and allows for a balanced growth”.
