2009-04-22 Poland: Public consultations considering food enzymes

European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has started public consultations about project developing directives on risk assessment of food enzymes.

The directives define information which needs to be presented by industry to EFSA for the risk assessment of enzymes. The description should contain chemical composition, features and toxicological tests. On the basis of such information EFSA will analyze safety of materials of the enzyme origin together with a process of its isolation. Enzymes present at EU market will be investigated at first.

Remarks regarding the directives could be submitted by 8th June 2009 via EFSA internet website (www.efsa.europa.eu) and will be considered by specific EFSA Scientific Panel (CEF) concentrated on food contact materials, enzymes, flavourings and processing aids.
