2009-04-08 Latvia: Latvian company Grindeks supports improvement of oxitocin administrationGrindeks agreed to participate in an international project aiming at development of oxitocine injections. The project is managed by Program for Appropriate Technology in Health, which is an international nonprofit organization, introducing health technologies and strategies, mainly to the developing countries. Grindeks will produce and supply an active pharmaceutical ingredient - oxytocin for the single-use injection device Uniject. Quality of the product is proved by GMP and FDA certificates, as well as "Certificate of Suitability”.
Oxitocin is a hormone reducing excessive bleeding after childbirth. According to World Health Organization such postpartum haemorrhage cause serious problems for women, especially in the developing countries. More than 500 000 women worldwide die of complications of pregnancy and childbirth, and 50 million women suffer dangerous consequences.
Grindeks is a pharmaceutical company operating worldwide, with main markets in Baltic States, Russia, Japan and USA, exporting products to more than 40 countries. Export of the company increased by ca.30% between years 2007 and 2008. Grindeks shares are listed in the Official List of "NASDAQ OMX Stock Exchange".
