2009-03-20 BioGaia to enter new CEE marketsBioGaia, a Swedish maker of probiotics, has granted Ewopharma of Switzerland exclusive distribution rights to its probiotic drops and tablets in the markets of Serbia and Croatia. The move marks the latest step in BioGaia’s steady expansion in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), and extends a model that has proven successful in other markets of the region.
The Swedish company is betting on Ewopharma’s strong presence in CEE. Martin Hongler, Ewopharma vice president, said that demand for BioGaia’s products was rising steadily in its markets, and in view of the sales growth in CEE countries the Swiss company was “eager” to launch BioGaia products in the two Balkan markets. Ewopharma is a privately held Swiss company, active on the pharma markets in Central and Eastern Europe. It has local subsidiaries in most CEE countries.
