2008-10-22 Nepentes begins preparation of dermatological medicines portfolio

The manufacturer and distributor of skin cosemtics and OTC medicines began the next phase of implementing its strategy to enter into a new segment of Rx drugs - prescription.

- "For now, to save time, we are buying ready products rather than inventing our own (medicines)” – explained Lukasz Butruk, CEO of Nepentes. The company has just signed a contract to purchase two drugs registers with the SciencePharma purchase records (register includes admission to trading and documentation).

The value of the transaction remains undisclosed.

The purchase of two registers means entrance to the worth EUR 440 million, and currently growing at a rate of almost 10 percent, dermatological medicines market. The two preparations are designed on the basis of active substances klobetasol (steroid) and mupirocine (antibiotic). After finalizing the contract Nepentes is waiting not only for introduction of drugs to produce, but also for creation and development of their respective trademarks.

Steroids dermatological market in Poland is worth around 60 million, and the antibiotics used to treat skin diseases, are worth around 37 million zloty. In each of those, Nepentes is planning to achieve 15-25 percent of market shares and, within 2-3 years, 10-15 percents in the whole dermatological medicines market.
