2008-10-07 Antibiotice invests 8m euros in production
Drug producer Antibiotice Iasi, one of the leading players in the industry, has budgeted investments worth 7.5-8 million euros to expand the tablet manufacturing capacity in the 2008 - 2009 period, from 250 to 500 million units per year. "The new department will become operational in the last quarter of 2009, and we would like to secure the necessary authorisations from the FDA (Food and Drug Administration, the regulatory authority in the US) in order to export to the USA," said Coca Cascaval, general manager of Antibiotice." This is not Antibiotice's first contact with the American market, as the company has been exporting nystatin (an active substance) for several years now, as well as finished products. In the new department, Antibiotice will produce drugs such as anti-inflammatory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal drugs and drugs aimed at central nervous system. In the first eight months of this year, exports accounted for 13% of the turnover, compared with 6% at the end of 2007. The growth was generated both by nystatin and by finished products," added the general manager of Antibiotice.
