Significant increase of incomes was a result of R&D work conducted in terms of application of the Mabion co. technology to produce recombinant proteins, which are potential therapeutic biotechnological pharmaceuticals. – told Maciej Wieczorek, president of the Mabion’s board.
Intensive R&D activities in the 4th quarter of 2011 caused an operational activity loss of 0.9 mio PLN (0.2 mio EUR). The company took great advantage of the EU funds granted for development of the MabionCD20 pharmaceutical to finance most of the durable property (equipment) and research services.
In 2011 Mabion co. has continued R&D works devoted to technology of monoclonal antibodies production, as well as clinical research on the MabionCD20 drug. MabionCD20 is a monoclonal antibody applied in treatment of blood tumors, lymphomas and leukemia.
Permission to produce therapeutics obtained by the company in December 2011 was a crucial milestone in the process of development of the MabionCD20. The permission considered both active substances – recombinant proteins (monoclonal antibodies and other proteins in various expression systems) and sterile pharmaceutical forms – ready drugs.
Another drug, which has been investigated by the company, is MabionHER2. In the end of 2011 it was within development of analytical methods, as well as detailed functional and biological assessment of the recombinant protein, such as biosimilarity.
The next two projects of Mabion co.: MabionEGFR – a monoclonal antibody applicable in case of colon, head and neck cancers, and MabionVEGF – a monoclonal antibody directed towards lung, breast, colon and kidney tumors, have recently entered the step of cellular development.
Mabion co. is currently conducting three research projects for external customers in terms of application of their own technologies of recombinant proteins production, which may serve as biotechnological therapeutics in the future.
