Polfa Tarchomin fights for its survival

Polish Pharmaceutical Holding (PHF) is a mistake - claim NIK (Supreme Chamber of Control) and MSP (Ministry of Treasury). The company survived another year despite the decision to sell all three Polfa which belong to the holding. Tarchomin Polfa, the weakest financial holding company, is struggling again. Pekao SA, a Polish bank, which passed Polfa’s 40 mln PLN credit line. There are ongoing negotiations on signing a new contract. The Bank expectations are “fairly drastic” – said Henry Wozniak, PHF CEO.

The situation is further complicated by the fact that the owner of Pekao SA - Italian UniCredit - found himself in trouble as a result of the collapse of financial markets.

Montelukast, in accordance with international guidelines is commonly used in the treatment of patients suffering from mild to moderate severity asthma who do not have a sufficient disease control by a standard treatment (mainly inhaled corticosteroids). This medicine is also used by patients suffering from asthma and simultaneous seasonal allergic rhinitis. It helps to prevent the occurrence of symptoms of asthma caused by exercises.

Polish vaccines against Enterobacteriacea, Salmonella and Shigella.

www.drexel.edu Prof. Andrzej Gamian, one of the leading Polish scientists, is focused on infectious diseases and is working on development of new vaccines against bacteria. His laboratory belongs toL. Hirszfeld’s Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy (Polish Academy of Sciences) in Wroclaw. Prof. Gamian's group is focused on bacterial wall compounds, like glycolipids, lipopolisacharydes and bacterial surface proteins. This research will hopefully result in improvement of control over infectious diseases.

Hasco-Lek is going to open a new plant.

Hasco-Lek CEO, Stanislaw Han is signing the notariat deed for the new plant construction In the beginning of October the board of Hasco-Lek put the foundation-stone in place where the new factory is being built – Siechnice near Wroclaw (Poland). The investment will cost around 73 mln PLN (21.2 mln EUR).

Lack of the expansion possibility of the present Hasco-Lek factory caused the decision to purchase a plot for the new plant. The executive board decided that new factory will be located in Industrial Activity Zone in Siechnice. The construction works started in July 2008 and are planning to be finished in next year coinciding with the 25th anniversary of Hasco-Lek activity.

Antibiotice invests 8m euros in production

Drug producer Antibiotice Iasi, one of the leading players in the industry, has budgeted investments worth 7.5-8 million euros to expand the tablet manufacturing capacity in the 2008 - 2009 period, from 250 to 500 million units per year. "The new department will become operational in the last quarter of 2009, and we would like to secure the necessary authorisations from the FDA (Food and Drug Administration, the regulatory authority in the US) in order to export to the USA," said Coca Cascaval, general manager of Antibiotice.

UPDATE 1-EU says Zentiva/Sanofi deal notification incomplete
